IPGeolocation.io is an IP data provider whose API and downloadable databases turn public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses into location, security, ASN, company, abuse contact, and time zone data, and whose API also parses user agent strings. Its team has been building IP geolocation in Lahore since 2017, and its legal entity is JFreaks Software Solutions LLC.

Teams call the API per lookup, download the data as CSV or MMDB files, or query it inside Snowflake. A Free plan includes 1,000 API credits a day, and a standard lookup costs 1 credit.

## What Data Does IPGeolocation.io Provide?

One IPGeolocation.io lookup can return location, security, ASN and network, company, abuse contact, and time zone data for the same IP address, and paid plans can add a parsed user agent to the same call.

* **Location (every plan; precision fields on paid plans):** continent, country, state or region, district, city, ZIP code, and coordinates, plus country details (calling code, top-level domain, and languages) and the local currency. Paid plans add locality, an accuracy radius, a confidence level, and the DMA code for US addresses.
* **Security (paid plans):** risk signals for VPN, proxy, residential proxy, Tor, and relay use (services such as iCloud Private Relay), with provider names, confidence scores, and last-seen dates where known; the type and operator of a bot, and whether it’s a known good bot, such as a search engine crawler; flags for known attackers, spam sources, cloud providers, and corporate gateways (the shared exit addresses of company security gateways, which aren't treated as anonymizers); and a threat score from 0 to 100, where higher means riskier.
* **ASN (basic fields on every plan):** the autonomous system number, its organization, and its country come with every lookup; paid plans add the ASN type, domain, allocation date, and regional internet registry. The standalone ASN API, with routes, peers, and WHOIS records, is included in every paid plan at 1 credit per lookup.
* **Network (paid plans):** the connection type, the BGP route (CIDR) the address belongs to, whether the address is anycast, and whether it sits on a content delivery network, with the CDN's name. A lookup can also add the hostname, found by reverse DNS, at no extra credit.
* **Company (paid plans):** the organization the IP address is assigned to, with its type and domain.
* **Abuse contact (paid plans):** the team that handles abuse reports for the address range, with emails, phone numbers, a postal address, and the route.
* **Time zone (every plan):** the zone name, UTC offset, current local time, and daylight saving details.
* **User agent (paid inside a lookup; basic standalone parsing on every plan):** the browser, device, operating system, and bot detection parsed from a user agent string. Paid plans can add it to a lookup at no extra credit. The standalone User Agent API's GET endpoint, which parses the user agent sent with the request, works on every plan; parsing a custom string by POST, and bulk parsing, need a paid plan.

![IPGeolocation.io data by plan: location, time zone, and ASN basics on every plan; network, security, company, abuse contact, and precision fields on paid plans](https://blogs.ipgeolocation.io/blogs-site/content/images/2026/10/ipgeolocation-io-data-by-plan.png)

The company and the ASN organization often match, but they answer different questions. The ASN organization is the network that announces the route. The company field names the organization the IP address is assigned to, which can be a customer or lessee of the block holder (the organization a regional registry allocated the block to). When a hosting provider or ISP reassigns part of its block, the two names differ, and a fraud or abuse investigation usually needs both.

Here is one lookup for 165.227.0.0, the sample address on the pricing page, with security and abuse contact data included (trimmed to the main fields):

```json
{
  "ip": "165.227.0.0",
  "location": { "country_name": "United States", "state_prov": "California", "city": "Santa Clara" },
  "network": { "route": "165.227.0.0/20" },
  "asn": { "as_number": "AS14061", "organization": "DigitalOcean, LLC", "type": "HOSTING" },
  "company": { "name": "DigitalOcean, LLC", "type": "HOSTING" },
  "security": {
    "threat_score": 5,
    "is_vpn": false,
    "is_proxy": false,
    "is_tor": false,
    "is_cloud_provider": true,
    "cloud_provider_name": "DigitalOcean, LLC"
  },
  "abuse": { "route": "165.227.0.0/16", "emails": ["abuse@digitalocean.com"] },
  "time_zone": { "name": "America/Los_Angeles" }
}
```

Here, the company and the ASN organization are the same: DigitalOcean is both registered for the range and announces it. The two ranges come from different sources. The abuse contact belongs to the /16 block registered with the regional registry, while the network route is the narrower /20 that BGP announces. The call costs 4 credits: 1 for the lookup, 2 for security data, and 1 for abuse contact data.

IPGeolocation.io's location data describes where the network endpoint is, not where the device is, so mobile carriers, VPNs, and anycast networks can place a person far from the result, a limitation every IP data provider shares. On paid plans, the accuracy radius, confidence level, anycast flag, and security flags can mark those cases. The [field reference, which marks each field as free or paid](https://ipgeolocation.io/documentation/ip-location-api.html), lists every field.

## Products: APIs and Databases

You can buy IPGeolocation.io data as APIs you call for each lookup or as databases you download and query on your own servers, and six of the datasets are also shared through Snowflake Marketplace.

![IPGeolocation.io product map: an IP address and a user agent string, seven data types, four ways to get the data](https://blogs.ipgeolocation.io/blogs-site/content/images/2026/10/how-ipgeolocation-io-products-fit-together.png)

* * *

### 1. APIs

The [IP Geolocation API](https://ipgeolocation.io/ip-location-api.html) is the unified API; the others each answer one question.

| API | What It Answers | Endpoint | Credit Cost | Plan |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| IP Geolocation API | Location, network, ASN, company, and time zone data, with optional security, abuse contact, and user agent data, in one response; bulk up to 50,000 IPs | `/v3/ipgeo`, `/v3/ipgeo-bulk` | 1 per valid IP (security +2, abuse contact +1) | Free for core fields; paid for the rest and for bulk |
| [IP Security API](https://ipgeolocation.io/ip-security-api.html) | Threat score and VPN, proxy, Tor, relay, and bot signals; bulk up to 50,000 IPs | `/v3/security`, `/v3/security-bulk` | 2 per valid IP | Paid |
| [Real-Time Proxy and VPN Detection](https://ipgeolocation.io/real-time-proxy-and-vpn-detection.html) | Whether a visitor's live browser session is anonymized right now | Browser script | 3 per check; +2 for IP security, +1 for location, ASN, or company (6 with everything) | Paid |
| [ASN API](https://ipgeolocation.io/asn-api.html) | An autonomous system's routes, peers, upstreams, downstreams, and WHOIS record, by IP or AS number | `/v3/asn` | 1 per lookup | Paid |
| [IP Abuse Contact API](https://ipgeolocation.io/ip-abuse-contact-api.html) | Who to report abuse to for an address | `/v3/abuse` | 1 per lookup | Paid |
| [Time Zone API](https://ipgeolocation.io/timezone-api.html) | Time zone and local time by IP, coordinates, city, airport code, UN/LOCODE, or zone name, plus time conversion | `/v3/timezone`, `/v3/timezone/convert` | 1 per lookup | Free and paid |
| [User Agent API](https://ipgeolocation.io/user-agent-api.html) | Browser, device, and operating system parsed from a user agent string; bulk up to 50,000 strings | `/v3/user-agent`, `/v3/user-agent-bulk` | 1 per parsed string | GET on every plan; POST and bulk on paid plans |

Real-Time Proxy and VPN Detection works differently from the rest. It analyzes a visitor's live browser connection instead of looking the address up in the IP intelligence database the other APIs use, and it usually returns a result with a confidence score within one to five seconds. In IPGeolocation.io’s testing, Real-Time Proxy and VPN Detection classifies sessions correctly about 98% of the time, and every session it got wrong came back with a confidence score under 35 ([how it works](https://ipgeolocation.io/real-time-proxy-and-vpn-detection.html)).

Outside the IP data, the [Astronomy API](https://ipgeolocation.io/astronomy-api.html) returns sunrise, sunset, moon, and twilight times for any place and date, at 1 credit per call on every plan. The Get IP endpoint (`/v3/getip`) returns the caller's public IP address with no account or key.

* * *

### 2. Databases

The databases come in three tiers, and every tier covers IPv4 and IPv6:

* [**Geo Standard**](https://ipgeolocation.io/geo-standard-databases.html)**:** IP to Country, IP to City, and IP to ISP.
* [**Geo Advance**](https://ipgeolocation.io/geo-advance-databases.html)**:** IP to Location (with accuracy fields, confidence, and DMA code), IP to ASN, IP to Company, IP Abuse Contact, IP WHOIS, and ASN WHOIS.
* [**Security Pro**](https://ipgeolocation.io/security-pro-databases.html)**:** IP Security, Residential Proxy, and IP to Hosting.

![IPGeolocation.io database tiers: Geo Standard, Geo Advance, and Security Pro, with file formats and release cadence](https://blogs.ipgeolocation.io/blogs-site/content/images/2026/10/ipgeolocation-io-database-tiers.svg)

The location, ASN, company, abuse contact, and security databases ship as CSV and MMDB files. The WHOIS databases ship as Gzip-compressed NDJSON, and other formats are available on request for some datasets. Releases come daily or weekly, depending on the dataset and subscription, through a download API that uses your API key. Databases are priced by quote, with bundles, custom builds, and contracts of up to three years ([database pricing and quotes](https://ipgeolocation.io/db-pricing.html)). Each database page offers a sample file, and there is no free database.

### 3. Which Product to Use

Use the unified IP Geolocation API when you need location plus other data types for one address. In that case, one call costs the same as separate calls or less: on paid plans, location plus a parsed user agent is 1 credit in one call and 2 in two. Use a standalone API when a service needs a single answer, such as a fraud check that reads only the threat score. Use a database for offline lookups or for millions of IPs, where paying per call stops making sense; the bulk API endpoints already handle up to 50,000 IPs per request. Use Snowflake, which refreshes monthly, when the data you’re enriching already lives there. For the full trade-offs, read the guide on [when to use an API or a database](https://ipgeolocation.io/guides/ip-geolocation-api-vs-database-guide).

## How to Get IPGeolocation.io Data

IPGeolocation.io's SDKs, integrations, and tools connect your systems to the API, the databases, and Snowflake.

* **REST API:** `https://api.ipgeolocation.io/v3/`, with JSON by default and XML on request, HTTPS on every endpoint, and authentication by API key or, on paid plans, by request origin for calls from a browser. There are no per-second or per-minute rate limits, and the [API documentation and SDK list](https://ipgeolocation.io/documentation.html) cover every endpoint.
* **SDKs:** 13 official SDKs in 12 languages: Java, Python, Go, Ruby, JavaScript (two SDKs, one of them for the web), TypeScript, PHP, C# (.NET), Rust, Kotlin, Swift, and C++. IPGeolocation.io also publishes OpenAPI specifications on GitHub.
* **Snowflake Marketplace:** IPGeolocation.io offers six IP intelligence datasets through [Snowflake Marketplace](https://ipgeolocation.io/integrations/snowflake), with lookup functions for working with the data inside Snowflake. The listings refresh monthly, and each listing states its own trial terms.
* **Integrations:** [33 integrations](https://ipgeolocation.io/integrations.html), including local MMDB lookups in Nginx, Traefik, Kong, and Apache HTTP Server; security tools such as Splunk, Elasticsearch, and Microsoft Security Copilot; automation platforms such as Zapier, Make, and n8n; and Shopify, WordPress, and Google Sheets.
* **AI agents:** IPGeolocation.io's [official MCP server](https://ipgeolocation.io/integrations/ipgeolocation-io-mcp) gives MCP clients 17 tools for its APIs and runs locally.
* **Command line and mobile:** the `ipgeolocation` [command-line tool](https://ipgeolocation.io/cli/ipgeolocation) runs lookups from a terminal, mmdbio reads and checks MMDB files, and an Android app handles quick lookups on a phone.

## Plans, Credits, and Billing

IPGeolocation.io API plans are billed in credits: a standard lookup costs 1 credit, the Free plan includes 1,000 credits a day, and paid plans start at $19 a month for 150,000 credits.

The Free plan needs no credit card and has no overage. Once the day's credits are used, the API answers with HTTP 429 until the allowance resets at 00:00 UTC. The free Developer plan can be used in production and for commercial purposes, within its daily credits and the Terms of Service; a separate help article covers [what the Free plan includes and where its limits are](https://ipgeolocation.io/help/whats-in-the-free-plan).

Paid plans go up to Premium at $249 a month for 5,000,000 credits, and Enterprise terms are custom. Starter, Plus, Pro, Business, and Premium share the same feature set and differ in included credits, overage rates and caps, and the number of extra API keys or Request Origins (1 on Starter, 2 on Plus and Pro, 3 on Business and Premium). Monthly plans include a monthly credit allowance; annual plans cost 10 times the monthly price and include a yearly allowance that resets at renewal. When a paid plan's credits run out, overage keeps requests flowing in fixed blocks up to a cap of $500 or $1,000, depending on the plan; after the cap, or with overage switched off, the API returns HTTP 429. Unused credits don't roll over. Trials of paid plans are available on request, and databases are licensed separately from API plans.

Only successful (HTTP 200) requests use credits, and every successful response carries an `X-Credits-Charged` header with the exact charge. Private, bogon, and malformed entries in a bulk request cost nothing. The help article on [how IPGeolocation.io credits are charged](https://ipgeolocation.io/help/how-ipgeolocation-io-credits-work) walks through every rule, with examples.

## How IPGeolocation.io Builds and Updates Its Data

IPGeolocation.io combines registry and WHOIS information, routing data, operator geofeeds, reviewed corrections, and active network measurements. [The published methodology](https://ipgeolocation.io/blog/how-ip-geolocation-data-is-built) describes how these signals are checked against one another: a location an operator declares in a geofeed, for example, is compared with the company's own measurements before it's used. Security data draws on active honeypots, proprietary blocklists, continuous enumeration of VPN and proxy networks, and behavioral analysis, which feed the threat score.

IP geolocation, security, ASN, and abuse contact data in the API are refreshed daily. Security signals are collected around the clock and reach the API in one full daily build.

IPGeolocation.io updates all of its data around the clock, including location, security, ASN, company, and abuse contact data, and pushes the latest version to the API once a day.

IPGeolocation.io's [published accuracy figures](https://ipgeolocation.io/documentation/ip-location-api.html) are 99%+ at the country level, 90%+ at the state or region level, and 85%+ at the city level. Its [accuracy page](https://ipgeolocation.io/accuracy.html) shows how disputed locations are checked. Accuracy on mobile networks is lower than on wired ones, and paid plans can return an accuracy radius and a confidence level, when requested and available, so you can see how precise a result is. When a location is wrong, anyone can [submit a data correction](https://ipgeolocation.io/corrections.html), and networks can share a geofeed URL instead (the guide on how to [publish a geofeed](https://ipgeolocation.io/guides/how-to-set-up-a-geofeed) explains the format). A reviewer then fixes the cause of the error rather than only the one record.

* * *

## Infrastructure, Uptime, and Privacy

Requests to IPGeolocation.io are routed to the nearest available server on AWS-hosted data nodes and Cloudflare-hosted edge infrastructure.

IPGeolocation.io offers a 99.99% uptime SLA on all of its plans, and its average response time is under 40 ms. The company's public [status page](https://status.ipgeolocation.io/), run on the monitoring service updown.io, checks the API from seven locations in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia and reports response time, including network latency; on October 21, 2026, it showed 100% uptime over the previous month and a 19 ms average response time.

IPGeolocation.io's servers keep standard API access logs for 14 days for security, troubleshooting, and abuse prevention, and then delete them; for billing, the company keeps only aggregate request and credit counts. It complies with GDPR and US data protection laws, including the CCPA, as its [GDPR compliance page](https://ipgeolocation.io/gdpr.html) explains, and acts as a processor for the data its customers send. Both its [list of subprocessors](https://ipgeolocation.io/subprocessors.html) and its [privacy policy](https://ipgeolocation.io/privacy.html) are public, and a DPA is available on request for paid customers.
